Indications for blepharoplasty
Indications for blepharoplasty can be both congenital and acquired with age:

Drooping of the upper eyelid, which interferes with vision - Presence of excess skin on the upper eyelid
- Loss of skin elasticity around the eyes
- Fat bags on the upper or lower eyelids
- Injuries to the peri-orbital area
Blepharoplasty may include:

Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper or lower eyelids or both eyelids at the same time – circular blepharoplasty.
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty
The overhanging excess skin of the upper eyelids can be congenital or age-related due to decreased production of subcutaneous collagen and elastin.
The thin tissues of the upper eyelid can weaken over time, leading to sagging skin.
The degree of drooping of the upper eyelid can be quite strong and cover part of the field of vision.

Upper and lower Blepharoplasty
A surgical procedure performed on both eyelids at the same time is called circular or combined blepharoplasty.

How is the operation carried on?
On the upper eyelids, the incision is made along the physiological fold of the eyelids, where it is hidden. Excess skin and fat are removed.
Meticulous Sutures are put on the incision and it usually heals with a thin cosmetic scar, hidden in the fold of the eyelids.
There are several different approaches to lower blepharoplasty. The incision is made on the skin in the fold under the eyelashes or on the mucous membrane (conjunctiva of the lower eyelid). Excess skin and fat are removed.
The operation ends with the application of cosmetic sutures.
Postoperative recovery
The rehabilitation process after blepharoplasty can last from 3 weeks to several months, depending on individual healing process of each patient and the volume of the operation.
In the postoperative period, the patient may experience:
- Slight dizziness from general anesthesia for several hours;
- Dryness or tearing of the eyes, sensitivity to light, blurry vision for 30-40 minutes;
- Swelling of the conjunctiva and bruising on the eye, bruises in the intervention zone - pass in the first 2-3 weeks *
- Scars - become almost invisible within 3-6 months *
- Change in sensitivity in the area of the eyelids (numbness, heaviness) - happens not often and goes away on its own quickly*
